In the summer of 2000 I decided to have surgery on my face. I took a cruise with my daughter that spring and my pictures were horrible. The most noticeable was my eyes. My upper lids were very droopy. So, I made an appointment with a local plastic surgeon.
The plastic surgeon made various recommendations during our appointment. He wanted me to have a brow lift for the deep lines across my forehead, shave off a bump on my nose and correct my puffy lower lids along with my droopy upper lids. Whew! We took the before pictures and I made the down payment.
When I got to the hospital they asked me if I wanted to spend the night for another $600+. I agreed to that too, boy I was easy. But it was the best decision I made all day. The surgery took maybe 4 hours. I don't remember too much of that night. My family came to see me. My nephew was just a baby, but my sister-in-law said I scarred him for life.
Apparently, I was in bad shape, since I couldn't open my eyes but a smidgen because they were so swollen and I had bandages wrapped around my head. I do remember trying to make it to the bathroom during the night not only were my eyes swollen, my sight was also blurred. Could you imagine if I was home?
Luckily I didn't scare my sister-in-law off for life because she took my home the next day and put me to bed. My daughter came by for two days to feed me and bring me ice for my eyes. I had very little bruising because I used a lot of ointment and ice. On the 5th day I was ready to shower, but couldn't because I had to wait 10 days for the stitches to be removed. I was just as happy to take a bath.
Finally the 10th day came and I went back to the surgeon to have my stitches removed. I wish they would of told me prior to my surgery that they would have to pull the stitches out of the corners of my eyes. The pain wasn't as bad as when they pulled the stitches out of my chest for my breast reduction, but it still hurt. The scars are still visible in the corner of my eyes.
The BIG thing they did not tell me prior to my surgery was that I would have a surgical scar from ear to ear and that they pulled my face away and my scalp (don't know why). To this day, a little over 8 years, I still am numb on the top of my head. Guess you could literally call me a numbskull. Also with this scar are the remnants of the knots from the stitches that I think I will have for life. These knots can hurt from time to time and I've lost some hair around the scar site.
When I got my stitches out the surgeon asked me if I was happy I did the surgery. At that time, I said I could kick myself for doing it. He said I would be happy for years. Well now years later my eyelids are starting to droop again. So I recently went to see another plastic surgeon and she just went ..yep, as you get older you will need a nip and a tuck. Great. The rest of the procedures are holding up....no wrinkles, except where they put the Restylane..but thats another story. - 17944
