Why do we pick the fragrances we do?

By Persipidus

Each of the many fragrances out there today have their own unique scent. Some are very rich and bold while others are subtle or fruity.

Each fragrance will appeal to a consumer in its own way based on how the scent is perceived by that person. So wha is it that drives a person to choose a specific scent?

Although there hundreds, if not thousands of brands out there I believe much of the decision is based on price range. Along with the variety of perfumes, also comes a broad range in price from the very expensive to the low cost fragrances.

The range of prices are anywhere from $10-50$ per bottle for the average person and designers such as Ralph Lauren and Nautica can provide to Chanel and then to the extreme of a fragrance called the Imerial Majesty that costs around $215,000.

After a price range is established by a consumer, the next deciding factor is what scent is what arouses the senses most. What "taste" does an individual have for a fragrance is just that; a preference. Another way to put it is the same deciding factor goes into fragrance selection as it does for food preferences or anything else that is individualized.

Even though there is no exact science behind why we like what we like there are some trends. these trends differ widely across the spectrum. Cultures and age for example are two different classes but yet each class will have some comparable taste in the selections they choose.

In my opinion it all comes down to the natural tendency to just like what we like!

The bottom line is that there is a huge variety of all types for all price ranges. All you have to do is to try a few until you find one that fits your taste and arouses your senses. - 17944
