Film and Craft Festivals at Massachusetts

By Maggie Simmons

Massachusetts always has open arms for the producers of Independent Films. Of all the states, we are the ones most receptive of their original creations. Truly, we recognize that the efforts of those hidden from the spotlight might rival or even be beyond the quality of most supposed blockbusters.

With the prevalence of Indie Films in our State comes the prevalence of craft fairs in the places where they commonly show. There's just something to be said about the artistry of Indie films and how it attracts likewise artistic craftspeople. For sure, the two mediums have many things in common.

Indie Films attract crowds that have a taste for something out of the ordinary. If this is your type of film experience, then I guarantee that you will enjoy the artistry in craft shows as well. The booths themselves are mostly manned by the very person who made the displayed crafts. If you talk to the craftsperson herself, and understand his insights on why he made the particular piece of craft that you want, then you'll appreciate the item all the more.

Now, the question is this: Not being mainstream, how do you know when an Indie film will be taking place? And consequently, how will you know when there will be a craft show accompanying it? Indie Films can be erratic, and you will have a hard time looking for schedules until at best a month before the event. Craft shows fair better, though. The craft shows themselves are scheduled and listed on the Internet; even before the actual Indie films are decided.

You will quickly notice, however, that most of these craft shows that are listed will not have a corresponding film festival that will occur with them. That is okay. Try visiting one of the craft shows. Odds are, one of the people minding the booths will have a fair idea of where the next Indie Film Festival will be held. - 17944
