Personal Skin Care And Your Daily Routine

By Frell Johnson

Splashing on lotion and applying a little cream every now and then is not the correct way to take care of your skin. It is far more important than going once a month to a skin care clinic. It is something that should be taken care of with a daily routine. Considering the benefits of a daily routine, it is really not that expensive either. There are some basic procedures that should be followed when getting started in your personal skin care routine.

Skin Type should be determined before attempting to start your routine. There are different types of skin that require different products. Some may have oily skin, others may have dry skin. There are also many that have very sensitive skin. Determining your skin type is very important. Testing a product to make sure that it doesn?t irritate your skin is important also. After you have determined your skin type and tested different products to find what is right for you, it will be time to start your routine. Here is a basic routine that will suit most skin care needs for normal skin.

The first process in the personal skin care routine is ?Cleansing?. The three main ingredients of a cleanser are oil, water and surfactants (wetting agents). Oil and surfactants extract dirt and oil from your skin and water flushes it out, thus making your skin look and feel clean. You might have to try a couple of cleansers before you find the one that suits you the best. However, you should always use soap-free cleansers. Also, you should use tepid water for cleansing (hot and cold water both, can cause damage to your skin). Be sure that you don?t over cleanse your skin thus disrupting the natural ph balance of it. Once in the morning and once in the evening is plenty on most days.

The second process in the personal skin care routine is exfoliation. Your skin follows a natural maintenance process in order to remove dead skin cells and replace them with new ones. Exfoliation is just a way to assist your skin in this process. Dead skin cells are not capable of responding to personal skin care products but will absorb these products, hence preventing them from reaching the new skin underneath. Thus removing dead skin cells is important in order to increase the effectiveness of all personal skin care products. Generally, exfoliation takes its place just after cleansing. As with any personal skin care procedure, it?s important that you understand how much exfoliation you need. Exfoliate 4-5 times per week for oily/normal skin and 1-2 times per week for dry/sensitive skin. Exfoliate a couple of times more in hot and humid weather.

The next and one of the most important processes in the routine is applying moisturizers to your skin. Not only do moisturizers add and seal in moisture to your skin, it attracts moisture also. You should be able to notice how much moisturizer your skin needs in about a week. Be careful not to over moisturize your skin. By doing this it can clog your pores and damage your skin instead of helping it.

Sunscreen is the last process in your personal skin care routine. Many moisturizers come with sunscreen already in the ingredients. If not, make sure you choose one that will protect you all day long. Even if there are clouds out side it is still important to wear sunscreen.

This 4 step process is again recommended for typical skin types (oily, normal, combination and dry). Severe skin disorders may require a visit to a Dermatologist to determine what is a correct routine and what products will work best for you. However, for those with typical skin it is recommended that you experiment with a few products until you find the ones that work best for you. Tip: use the same brand for all your products if you can, they were made to work well with one another. - 17944
